Write For Us

Got something to write about? Looking to gain some experience? Looking for some exposure? Want to use us as an reference?

Then inquire about several writing opportunities that we may have here for you at HBCUIn.com.

We’re always looking for writers of original content (i.e. editorials, opinion columns, news reporter, stories, etc.) and if you have a passion for writing as we do in informing the general public of timely and informative news pieces and articles, contact one of our editors and tell him/her how you would like to contribute your services.

If you enjoy writing in general, we are currently accepting author applications.

What does writing for HBCUIn.com get me?

In return for your original quality post, you get the chance to introduce yourself to the HBCUIn.com community and show off your writing talents. This will typically convert to additional traffic and subscribers for your website or blog if you have one. You will also eventually get your own author page and each post will include a link to your website or blog (after a few posts). Unfortunately there aren’t any paid positions at this time, but we will be open to the possibility of that happening in the future.

How does being a guest author work?

When you sign up to contribute weekly post(s) to HBCUIn.com, after your first 2 posts you will typically receive your own login information, and your account will be set as a contributor. Being a contributor means that your post will be published upon approval. Opportunities will be available to be promoted to author once you’ve written at least 5 posts.

Currently most guest authors write once a week, however, how often you write is left up to you. If you only want to contribute 2 posts total, that is fine. There is no minimum contribution required.

We do not edit or change your posts in any way. Any changes or modifications or only made by the author or by us at the request of the author. We only add a quick blurb about the author at the top of their first few posts as an introduction to our readers and we often make adjustments to the title, post slug, category, and tags if necessary.

What kind of author(s) are you looking for?

HBCUIn.com is a blog focusing on Black life and popular culture within. We are looking for individuals who enjoy writing and feel that they bring something to the table.

Rules & Guidelines for Guest Authors

The rules are in place to ensure that the quality of posts and integrity of the site remains high.

  • The post/article should not be reproduced anywhere else on the web (in English) including your own blog (neither party benefits from duplicate content). However you may reproduce an excerpt leading to your site or blog if deemed noteworthy, and this must be approved by an editor.
  • Any images used in the post cannot mess up the design of the site. As a guideline, the max width of any picture you post should not exceed 500 pixels.
  • It is okay to link to your own blog if it is relevant to do so. However, you should not write articles around topics to justify a link to your blog and you should not actively encourage visitors to visit your blog. Remember, you get a link to your blog at the top of your posts, a link on your author page, and the links are clearly marked so that your site gets exposure.
  • No affiliate codes or referral links are allowed in posts.
